Each book explains Azure Boards in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- Azure DevOps
Microsoft's suite of DevOps services, among them Azure Boards and Azure Pipelines.
Related terms
- AB# mention
Type
AB#and a work item number in a GitHub issue, pull request or commit to link Azure Boards items; preceding it with fix, fixes or fixed changes the item's state on merge to the default branch. Azure Repos uses just#and the number. - Analytics views
Filtered definitions of Azure Boards data, such as work items, fields and history, that Power BI reports use as their source.
- Basic process
Azure Boards' simplest built-in process: epics, issues and tasks only, with bugs recorded as issues, moving through To Do, Doing and Done. Offered in the cloud service and in Server 2020 onwards.
- CFD
An Azure Boards chart showing how many work items sit in each state over time, revealing flow, work in progress and bottlenecks. It can't give precise lead or cycle times; separate widgets do that.
- Cycle time
Azure Boards offers a widget for it: how long a work item takes between first reaching an In Progress state and reaching Completed. Lead time is counted from when the item was created.
- GitHub App
An integration that is installed on selected repositories and acts under its own identity, using precise permissions and installation tokens that expire quickly. Linking Azure DevOps to GitHub is best done through the Azure Boards and Azure Pipelines apps.
- GitHub connection
Joins one Azure Boards project to a GitHub organisation, covering up to 2,000 repositories there, so that typing AB# plus an ID in a commit, PR or issue links it to the matching work item.
- GitHub Issues
GitHub's way of tracking bugs, tasks and ideas inside a repository, equivalent to work items in Azure Boards.
