Terms in this definition
- VMware Cloud Foundation
Broadcom's platform for private cloud. It unifies management of NSX, vSAN, vSphere, VCF Automation and VCF Operations as one fleet; VVF, by contrast, lacks automation and cloud management.
- Online management group
Workloads that may talk directly to or from the internet, or that need no virtual network at all, go in this management group. It is a sibling of Corp and Local beneath Landing zones.
- Download token
Credential from Broadcom's support site that lets an online depot pull VCF software.
- LSDOU
The sequence in which Group Policy is processed: the local policy first, followed by site, domain and organisational unit policies. The nearest, last-processed setting takes effect unless Enforced or Block Inheritance alters that.
- VCF Download Tool
Command-line utility, previously the Offline Bundle Transfer Utility, for handling VCF binaries and metadata at sites without internet access: downloading, uploading, listing and cleaning up. UMDS can also be installed and run through it.
Related terms
- Compatibility data bundle
Brought in by depot sync or a manual import, this vSphere Lifecycle Manager data set merges the Product Interoperability Matrix with Broadcom's compatibility data, informing image recommendations and checks run before remediation.
- Depot override
A setting on a cluster or standalone host that makes vSphere Lifecycle Manager use a depot at the remote or branch site, rather than the main vCenter depot, for compliance checks, pre-checks and remediation, cutting WAN traffic.
- Image Library
Each vCenter keeps one of these to store vSphere Lifecycle Manager image specifications: just the desired-state definitions available to hosts and clusters, while the software itself lives in the depot.
- ROBO
Branch offices and similar small outlying sites. In vSphere estates they commonly run on two-node vSAN clusters or single hosts, and depot overrides in vSphere Lifecycle Manager allow them to update from a depot kept on site.
- Update download task
Runs on a schedule in vCenter (daily unless changed) to refresh the Lifecycle Manager depot from its configured sources, and can be triggered by hand.
