Terms in this definition
- SSMS
SQL Server Management Studio, a tool for administering SQL Server, used for tasks such as building a target schema.
- RAMP
The approach used by the Cloud Adoption Framework's Manage methodology to structure cloud operations: teams, duties, processes and tools. It divides what the central platform handles from what each workload handles.
- Analysis Services
VertiPaq, Microsoft's in-memory analytics engine, sits underneath every Power BI semantic model and is likewise available as Azure Analysis Services or SQL Server Analysis Services. Tools connect to it over XMLA, using its client libraries.
- DEFINE
An optional keyword at the start of a DAX query, placed before the first EVALUATE, for declaring things such as measures and variables that exist only for that query. A measure declared this way replaces a model measure with the same name just while the query runs.
- TOM
A .NET library that extends AMO and lets code create and manage tabular models, including their tables, columns, measures and roles, through the XMLA endpoint.
Related terms
- ADOMD
The .NET client library for Analysis Services that tools use to run queries against a semantic model over the XMLA endpoint. Administrative work is left to its sibling library, AMO.
