Terms in this definition
- Event
Table in Log Analytics where entries from Windows event logs are kept.
- FORMAT
A DAX function that turns a value into text according to a format string, for instance "MMMM" to show a month's name. Since the output is text, numeric operations can't use it, and dynamic format strings were introduced to get around that.
- Unity Catalog
Azure Databricks' governance solution covering both data and AI in one place, with centralised permissions, auditing, data discovery and lineage.
- OVER
Gives a T-SQL window function its window: PARTITION BY, ORDER BY and, if wanted, a ROWS or RANGE frame. Rankings and running totals can then be worked out while every row is kept.
- REST
Short for representational state transfer, the style of HTTP API that Azure services expose.
- Catalog
The first level of Unity Catalog's
catalog.schema.tablenaming and the primary boundary for isolating data. Privileges granted on a catalog flow down to every schema and object it contains.
Related terms
- Managed Iceberg table
Stores data in Apache Iceberg format (
USING iceberg) as a Unity Catalog managed table. Engines outside Databricks can query and update it via the Iceberg REST Catalog API, and Unity Catalog handles its upkeep. - Managed table
Recommended by default, this table type keeps its Delta or Apache Iceberg files in storage Unity Catalog controls, namely the managed location of its schema, catalog or metastore. After a
DROP, the files are deleted once the recovery period has passed.
