Each book explains Block cloning in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- VHDX
Allows Hyper-V virtual disks as large as 64 TB and copes better than VHD with corruption caused by power cuts.
- ReFS
Resilient File System, aimed at large scale and data integrity: checksums, block cloning, mirror-accelerated parity and online repair with Storage Spaces. Windows cannot boot from it, and disk quotas and ODX, both found in NTFS, are missing.
- Kerberos armoring
Wraps Kerberos pre-authentication in an encrypted tunnel; Group Policy must enable support on both clients and domain controllers.
- CRUD
Shorthand for create, read, update and delete, the four basic things you do with data. Data-plane roles in Azure Cosmos DB, for instance, authorise those operations on items.
Related terms
- Fast Clone
A Veeam technology that points to blocks already on a volume rather than copying them, using features such as ReFS block cloning and XFS reflink, which makes synthetic fulls and transformations quicker and uses less space.
