Holds reusable Power Query preparation in the Power BI service, so multiple semantic models can draw on the same clean tables. Gen1 is now legacy; Gen2 is Microsoft's suggested choice wherever Fabric is on hand.
Also called Power BI Dataflow Gen1.

Terms in this definition
- Power BI service
Power BI's browser-based SaaS component: people publish and share reports and semantic models there, create dashboards and apps, and set up scheduled data refreshes.
Related terms
- Dataflow activity
Lets a pipeline run a dataflow, so Dataflow Gen2 refreshes can be orchestrated and given parameter values. Dataflow Gen1 can't be run this way.
- Dataflow Gen1
Power BI's first dataflow type, now legacy and frozen for new features. Dataflow Gen2 adds data destinations and a pipeline activity that Gen1 lacks, though Gen1 does support DirectQuery through the dataflow connector.
- Power Query template
A .pqt file packaging a Power Query project (its queries, parameters and settings) for import into a different host; a typical use is moving Gen1 dataflow logic to Dataflow Gen2.
- Retry conditions
Rather than retrying after any failure, a pipeline activity with this preview setting retries only if the failure type, error message or error code matches what you specify (429, signalling throttling, is a common choice). Supported activities are Notebook, Copy data, Stored procedure and Dataflow.
