Terms in this definition
- Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows
Protects Windows desktops, servers, failover clusters and cloud machines, whether run alone or under the backup server. Volume-level restores are possible only from backups this agent has made.
- managed mode
Agents are run centrally from Veeam Backup & Replication, with jobs or policies set up by a Backup Administrator or someone with a custom role.
- RAMP
The approach used by the Cloud Adoption Framework's Manage methodology to structure cloud operations: teams, duties, processes and tools. It divides what the central platform handles from what each workload handles.
- Job
A sequence of steps executed together on one agent or runner, or on the server for agentless work. While running, each occupies one of your parallel jobs.
Related terms
- Cluster Shared Volumes
Shared failover cluster storage that all nodes write to simultaneously, typically for Scale-Out File Server or Hyper-V. On SAN-backed storage, ReFS-formatted volumes work in redirected mode.
- CNO
It creates computer objects for clustered roles. It represents a failover cluster's network name in Active Directory and is prestaged or made during setup.
- Database Availability Group
In Exchange, a group of mailbox servers clustered for high availability. A normal one is handled by Veeam Agent like a failover cluster; one without an IP address is covered by putting every node into a protection group.
- Scale-Out File Server
A failover cluster role in which every node serves the same SMB shares simultaneously, intended for application workloads like SQL Server database files and Hyper-V virtual machines.
- SQL Server on Azure VMs
SQL Server delivered as IaaS, giving full control of the operating system, with high availability from failover cluster instances or Always On availability groups.
- Stand-alone namespace
A DFS namespace whose settings live in one namespace server's registry and whose path is \\ServerName\RootName. The only way to make it highly available is to host it on a failover cluster.
- Workgroup cluster
A failover cluster built from servers that aren't domain members. It uses a local account, and its administrative access point is registered in DNS.
