Terms in this definition
- VIB
ESX's software package format, used for items such as drivers and agents. Before installation the host checks each package's acceptance level and signature.
Related terms
- backup method
Three schemes exist: forward incremental, forever forward incremental and reverse incremental. The one chosen fixes which files make up a chain and their sequence, and so how heavily and in what way the repository is read and written.
- reverse incremental backup
An older, now deprecated method that keeps the newest full (VBK) at the end of the chain with VRB files before it, writing new changes into the full each run. In v13 only jobs created before v13 can still use it; forward incremental takes its place.
- VIB file
The Veeam file type for an incremental restore point in a forward incremental chain, holding just the blocks that changed since the point before. It has nothing to do with VMware's ESXi package format, which shares the extension.
