Blob Storage policy whose rules delete blobs, or shift them to another access tier, once they reach an age counted from creation, modification, last access or last tier change. GPv2 and legacy BlobStorage accounts support it, as do premium block blob accounts for deletion only.

Terms in this definition
- Blob storage
Azure's object store for unstructured content like images and video; a single block blob can reach roughly 190.7 TiB.
- Exclusions
Scopes taken out of a policy assignment; they can only narrow its coverage, never widen it.
- CRUD
Shorthand for create, read, update and delete, the four basic things you do with data. Data-plane roles in Azure Cosmos DB, for instance, authorise those operations on items.
- Access tier
Setting for block blobs in standard accounts (Hot, Cool, Cold or Archive). Cooler tiers cost less to store but more to access.
- LAST
Restricted to visual calculations, this DAX function reads a value from the final position along one of the visual's axes. Writing INDEX(-1) gives the same result.
- Archive
Offline access tier for blobs, cheapest to store yet dearest to access. Reading a blob means rehydrating it first, which can take as long as 15 hours.
- Standard general-purpose v2
A Standard storage account covering every storage service, with access tiers and all redundancy options available.
- BlobStorage
Older storage account kind that holds only blobs on standard performance and offers access tiers; it retires on 13 October 2026, so accounts should move to general-purpose v2.
Related terms
- Insider risk level
Based on what Insider Risk Management sees a person do, or the alerts raised about them, Adaptive Protection rates them Minor, Moderate or Elevated. Policies for Conditional Access, DLP and data lifecycle management can then tighten controls for riskier people; this rating is separate from how severe an alert is.
- Policy lookup
A page in data lifecycle management and records management where you enter a user, site or Microsoft 365 group to see which retention policies and retention label policies cover it.
- Priority cleanup
Lets admins with the Priority Cleanup Admin role wipe specific content for good, overriding eDiscovery holds and retention. Deletion goes ahead only once other administrators approve it, and it sits within Data Lifecycle Management.
- View-Only Retention Management
Lets someone look at, but not change, retention labels and policies in Data Lifecycle Management.
