Terms in this definition
- FORMAT
A DAX function that turns a value into text according to a format string, for instance "MMMM" to show a month's name. Since the output is text, numeric operations can't use it, and dynamic format strings were introduced to get around that.
- Intune
Microsoft's device management service, once branded Microsoft Endpoint Manager. Its compliance policies are what the compliant-device grant in Conditional Access relies on.
- Large value data types
The (max) types, meaning nvarchar(max), varchar(max) and varbinary(max), along with vector, json and the older image, text and ntext types. They are allowed as included columns but never as part of an index key.
- App protection policy
A set of Intune rules on managed apps that safeguards organisational data, for example by demanding a PIN or preventing copy-paste and save-as into personal apps. It works whether or not the device is enrolled.
- Agent
A specialised form of Microsoft Copilot set up for one particular job, pairing instructions with knowledge and skills. You can create one in Copilot Studio, SharePoint or Agent Builder, and administrators control them from the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Related terms
- Developer ID Installer
To deploy a macOS .pkg as a line-of-business app in Intune, the package has to be signed with this Apple Developer certificate. Packages with no signature go through the unmanaged macOS app (PKG) type.
- DMG
A disk image file on macOS. Rather than as a signed .pkg, Intune deploys it through its macOS app (DMG) type.
- Install as managed
An option for macOS line-of-business apps. On macOS 11 or newer it deploys a .pkg containing one app so that Intune manages it, which means you can then assign it as Uninstall.
- macOS app (PKG)
Deploys .pkg files to Macs as unmanaged apps using Intune's agent. This app type copes with packages that are unsigned or have no payload.
