A block of rows inside a Parquet file in which each column's values are kept together as a chunk. Metadata in the file locates these chunks, letting readers skip directly to the columns and rows they want.

Terms in this definition
- Parquet
Columnar file format, open source and aimed at analytics. Event Hubs Capture cannot produce it natively.
- VALUES
Returns in DAX the distinct column values, or table rows, still visible after filters are applied, sometimes with an extra blank entry. CALCULATE often takes the result as a table filter.
- Metadata
Describes data rather than being the data itself, for instance how a file is laid out or what rows each chunk contains, so tools can read things efficiently.
- Readers
Gives view-only rights within an Azure DevOps project, for example over releases and pipelines. Don't confuse it with Azure's Reader role or the agent pool Reader role.
