A Foundry deployment type billed per token that keeps processing of prompts and responses inside the Azure geography of the resource, meeting data residency needs at lower volumes.
Also called Standard.

Each book explains Standard deployment type in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- Foundry deployment type
Option picked at model deployment time, such as Global Standard, Standard, Data Zone, provisioned or batch. It determines both the billing model and the location where data gets processed.
- Token
The unit of text an LLM works with, which may be a word, part of a word or punctuation. Billing, limits and context windows are all counted in these units.
- Azure geography
Grouping of Azure regions such as United States; restoring a Key Vault backup is allowed only inside the geography it came from.
Related terms
- Access mode
Set on each compute resource, this controls which people can attach and what data they reach. Dedicated (once called single user) belongs to a single user or group, standard (once called shared) keeps many users apart from each other, and Auto leaves the choice to the runtime.
- Access tier
Setting for block blobs in standard accounts (Hot, Cool, Cold or Archive). Cooler tiers cost less to store but more to access.
- Active-active VPN gateway
Configuration where tunnels run on both gateway instances, and each instance has a Standard static public IP of its own. Azure Route Server branch-to-branch transit needs this mode plus ASN 65515.
- ADLS Gen2
Short for Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2: a standard GPv2 account with hierarchical namespace turned on, so analytics workloads get true directories and POSIX-style ACLs.
- ANSI
The American National Standards Institute, which made SQL a standard in 1986, a year before ISO did. Its standard types, for example INT, DECIMAL and VARCHAR, explain why SQL looks much the same from one vendor to another, even though each has its own dialect.
- Application Gateway v1
First-generation Application Gateway SKU, with Standard and WAF tiers and authentication certificates, which retired on 28 April 2026. Gateways already on v2 cannot revert to it.
- argparse
Module in the Python standard library for parsing named arguments passed to a script on the command line. If a flag's name differs from what was declared, the script errors or the argument stays unset.
- Audit log retention policy
Lets an organisation decide how long particular audit records survive, filtered by user, activity or service: between 7 days and 1 year as standard, or 3, 5, 7 or 10 years with the 10-Year add-on. It is an Audit (Premium) feature; up to 50 can exist, and they win over the default policy.
