When enabled on Blob Storage, earlier versions of each blob are retained. Point-in-time restore depends on it, though it never purges data itself.
Also called blob.

Terms in this definition
- Blob storage
Azure's object store for unstructured content like images and video; a single block blob can reach roughly 190.7 TiB.
- EARLIER
Within nested DAX row contexts, lets an inner calculation read a column as it stood in an outer pass; EARLIEST jumps to the outermost. Most people now use variables, which read more clearly.
- BLOB
Short for binary large object: raw binary data, like pictures, audio, video or documents, that only an application can make sense of. Azure keeps these files as blobs in Blob Storage.
- Point-in-time restore
Lets you wind block blobs in a general-purpose v2 account back to how they were at an earlier moment. Before it works, soft delete, blob versioning and the change feed all have to be on.
Related terms
- Foundry Agent Service
Fully managed Microsoft Foundry offering in which prompt, voice and hosted agents are created, deployed, run and scaled. Models, tools, guardrails, versioning, tracing and network isolation all come built in.
- Object replication
Keeps a destination container in another storage account, in any region, asynchronously in step with a source container's block blobs. It works with GPv2 and premium block blob accounts, requiring versioning on both sides and change feed at the source.
- SharePoint admin center
The console used by SharePoint Administrators to look after sites, sharing across the organisation, storage and versioning, along with the SharePoint Advanced Management capabilities.
