Terms in this definition
- Microsoft Foundry
Formerly called Azure AI Foundry, the Azure platform where AI models and agents are built, evaluated and run within one resource, with evaluations, guardrails and AI red teaming.
- SDK
Software development kit: client libraries, for example the Key Vault SDK or Speech SDK, that let code use a service without calling its REST API directly.
- Foundry project endpoint
URL in the form https://<resource>.services.ai.azure.com/api/projects/<project> that is passed when creating an
AIProjectClient. It took over from the connection strings used in early previews. - Microsoft Entra
The umbrella brand covering Microsoft's identity and network access portfolio. Internet Access, Private Access, External ID and ID Governance all belong to it, built on top of the core directory service, Entra ID.
- LIKE
Compares strings with a pattern that can contain the % and _ wildcards. Because it only understands character patterns, searching big volumes of text this way is much slower than using full-text search.
- DefaultAzureCredential
Credential type in the Azure SDKs that works through several sources in turn: a developer's own sign-in on a workstation, or the managed identity through IMDS when hosted in Azure. No keys or secrets need storing.
- Microsoft Entra ID
Cloud identity service from Microsoft, previously named Azure AD, which provides the tenant behind Microsoft 365 and Azure.
- Authentication
Checking an identity claim made by a person, device or app, for instance by asking for a password plus an extra factor. Authorisation only happens once this step has succeeded.

azure-ai-projects) that operates on a Microsoft Foundry project viaAIProjectClient, covering agents, datasets, deployments and connections. It also provides an OpenAI-compatible client for conversations, responses and evaluations. - get_openai_client()
A method on
AIProjectClientthat hands back an OpenAI client already authenticated to the project. You use it forresponses.create(readingresponse.output_text), plus conversations, evaluations and fine-tuning.
