Terms in this definition
- Apple Business Manager
Where an organisation buys apps and books in bulk and rolls out the Apple devices it owns. Intune receives location (VPP) tokens from it, and it supplies devices to Automated Device Enrollment.
- Chat message roles
Labels on chat messages: instructions go under system, the person's input under user, the model's previous answers under assistant, and results returned by a called tool under tool (or function).
- Intune
Microsoft's device management service, once branded Microsoft Endpoint Manager. Its compliance policies are what the compliant-device grant in Conditional Access relies on.
- Token
The unit of text an LLM works with, which may be a word, part of a word or punctuation. Billing, limits and context windows are all counted in these units.
Related terms

- Ephemeral OS disk
An OS disk held on the VM host's local storage instead of Azure Storage. It keeps no state across redeploys or resizes, can't be stopped and deallocated, and isn't supported by Azure Backup, Site Recovery or ADE.
- Write Accelerator
Available only on M-series VMs, this option for Premium SSD disks reduces write latency for database logs. Disks using it don't support ADE.
