Each book explains Endpoint analytics in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- Intune
Microsoft's device management service, once branded Microsoft Endpoint Manager. Its compliance policies are what the compliant-device grant in Conditional Access relies on.
- Work from anywhere
An Endpoint analytics report that rates how ready devices are for the cloud and for Windows 11, using the states Capable, Not capable, Upgraded and Unknown.
- App protection policy
A set of Intune rules on managed apps that safeguards organisational data, for example by demanding a PIN or preventing copy-paste and save-as into personal apps. It works whether or not the device is enrolled.
- Reliability
How well a system bounces back from failures and keeps running. It is a cloud benefit and also a pillar of the Azure Well-Architected Framework, which has five in total.
- Kerberos armoring
Wraps Kerberos pre-authentication in an encrypted tunnel; Group Policy must enable support on both clients and domain controllers.
- Weighted
Distributes traffic among Traffic Manager endpoints in proportion to the weights assigned to them.
- LEAST
Pass up to 254 expressions to this T-SQL function and it hands back whichever is smallest. Both Fabric Warehouse and SQL analytics endpoints support it.
Related terms
- Advanced Analytics
Adds device query, device scopes, a device timeline, anomaly detection, resource performance and battery health on top of endpoint analytics. It comes with the Intune Suite and with Intune Plan 2.
- Battery health
A report in Advanced Analytics, under Reports > Endpoint analytics > Battery health, giving 0–100 scores for battery runtime and capacity, views by OS and model, and the impact of apps over 14 days.
- Intune data collection policy
The first time someone sets up Endpoint analytics, Intune automatically makes this Windows health monitoring profile and deploys it, so that devices start sending the information used to calculate the analytics scores.
- Population Z-score model
An anomaly detection model in Endpoint analytics that picks out unusual devices or apps using a dataset's mean and standard deviation; it is only accurate with large amounts of data.
- Prevalence rate
In Endpoint analytics anomaly detection, the proportion of a group's devices that an anomaly affects.
- Threshold-based heuristic
An anomaly model in Endpoint analytics that raises an alert once a measurement goes past a set limit.
- Time series Z-score model
An anomaly model in Endpoint analytics that spots an abrupt shift in a measurement relative to how it has behaved recently.
