Terms in this definition
- WHERE
Limits a SELECT, UPDATE or DELETE to just the rows meeting a condition. Omit it, and the statement hits every row.
- Scope
Where an access or policy assignment takes effect. It can be set on a single resource, a resource group, a subscription or a management group, and settings flow down from higher levels.
- Drillthrough
Jumping from one value in a visual to a detail page that shows only data for that value. Authors prepare the detail page by dragging fields into its Drillthrough well; users trigger the jump with a right-click or a Drill through button.
- FILTER
Returns just those rows of a table that meet a condition. In CALCULATE it handles conditions too complex for a Boolean filter argument, though a Boolean filter is faster whenever one will work.
- Readers
Gives view-only rights within an Azure DevOps project, for example over releases and pipelines. Don't confuse it with Azure's Reader role or the agent pool Reader role.
Related terms
- Query reduction
Best suited to DirectQuery, these Power BI Desktop options (also a preset on the Optimize ribbon) lower query volume: visuals stop cross-filtering and cross-highlighting automatically, while slicers and the Filters pane gain Apply buttons.
- Top N filter
Keeps only the highest or lowest N items of a field, ranked by a value like a measure, and is set per visual in the Filters pane. Despite the shared idea of ranking, it is separate from DAX's TOPN function.
