Lets report users drill up and down through totals by stacking a dimension's levels in order, for example region, then city, then address, in a semantic model.

Terms in this definition
- region
A provider-defined grouping in VCF Automation of Supervisors that all share one NSX Local Manager; tenants consume its compute, storage and memory via quotas set per region.
- Semantic model
Sometimes called an OLAP model, this Power BI and Fabric layer defines the measures, hierarchies, tables and relationships that reports and dashboards query; star schema design is the usual pattern.
Related terms
- Azure landing zone for Nonprofits
A ready-made option aimed at nonprofit organisations. You can start small on one subscription, or take a larger platform route that reuses management and connectivity subscriptions you already run; either way no management group hierarchy is set up.
- Balanced hierarchy
A hierarchy in which each path has an identical, fixed depth, as with year, quarter, month, date. Ragged hierarchies and parent-child (unbalanced) ones, by contrast, have branches of differing length.
- COLLAPSE
Moves a calculation up one level of the axis hierarchy in a visual, which is how you'd get a value as a share of its parent. This DAX function works in visual calculations and nowhere else.
- Connectivity management group
Part of the platform hierarchy containing the subscription, normally just one, used for shared networking. Typical contents are hubs (VNet or Virtual WAN), Azure Firewall, gateways and DNS.
- Definition location
Where a policy definition or initiative is saved, either a management group or a subscription. Assignments can only be made beneath that point in the hierarchy, which is why widely used definitions should sit high up.
- Drill down
Going from a summary to finer detail within a hierarchy, for instance from regional sales to city sales; drilling up reverses it. Power BI visuals and semantic models both support this.
- EXPAND
Restricted to visual calculations, EXPAND works out a value one step down the visual's hierarchy, for example the mean across child rows. EXPANDALL instead goes straight to the bottom, leaf level.
- Hierarchy Settings Administrator
An Azure built-in role limited to viewing and updating the settings of the management group hierarchy.
