Terms in this definition
- VCF Automation
Self-service platform in VCF for provisioning VM, Kubernetes and AI workloads. Providers manage regions and tenants in one portal, while tenants handle projects and consumption in theirs.
- ALL
A DAX function that ignores any filters and gives back every row of a table or every value of the named columns. Used within CALCULATE, it works as a modifier that clears filters, although REMOVEFILTERS states that intent more clearly where it is available.
- Share
In OpenSharing, the container you fill with tables, views, volumes, models and notebooks for recipients. You need
CREATE SHAREon the metastore to make one; add a schema and all its assets, including later ones, go with history. - NSX
Software that handles networking and security across VCF, covering firewalling, load balancing, NAT, VPCs, overlay segments and Tier-0/1 gateways.
- LSDOU
The sequence in which Group Policy is processed: the local policy first, followed by site, domain and organisational unit policies. The nearest, last-processed setting takes effect unless Enforced or Block Inheritance alters that.
- General-purpose v1
The older storage account kind (
Storage), which lacks access tiers, Archive and premium file shares and retires on 13 October 2026. Converting to ZRS requires first upgrading to GPv2, a one-way change. - Set
Secret permission in Key Vault for writing secrets; some older material refers to it as Create.
Related terms
- Administrative unit
Used to confine a role assignment to a subset of a Microsoft Entra directory, such as just one region's users for a local helpdesk. A unit holds users, groups or devices; units cannot be nested, and including a group does not make its individual members part of the scope.
- Allowed locations
Built-in Azure Policy that rejects resources in any region missing from its list, making it the usual way to control where deployments go.
- App Service plan
Billing unit providing the compute, defined by region, OS, pricing tier and instance size and count, on which one or more apps run. Separate plans are needed for Linux and Windows apps.
- Application Gateway
Layer-7 load balancer deployed per region, offering URL-based routing, TLS offload, cookie-based affinity and an optional WAF.
- Audit log system table
Databricks recommends this over exporting diagnostic logs:
system.access.audit, a Public Preview system table holding audit events from the account's workspaces in a region, retained free for 365 days. - Auditing
Azure SQL capability that sends database audit logs to Log Analytics, Event Hubs or a storage account; that account is allowed to be in a different region.
- Availability zone
One or more datacentres in an Azure region that are physically apart from the rest and have their own power, cooling and network. If one zone fails, the others keep running.
- Availability zones
Separate physical datacentre locations inside one region. Placing VMs in at least two of them earns a 99.99% SLA.
