Each book explains Microsoft Entra join in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- Microsoft Entra ID
Cloud identity service from Microsoft, previously named Azure AD, which provides the tenant behind Microsoft 365 and Azure.
- JOIN
Combines rows from two or more tables in one SELECT, most often by pairing a primary key with the foreign key that refers to it.
- BYOD
Bring your own device: staff working on their own phones, tablets or laptops. Microsoft Entra ID normally registers these devices instead of joining them.
Related terms
- Microsoft-hosted network
The Windows 365 networking choice Microsoft recommends, in which Microsoft supplies and runs the network for Cloud PCs. It works with Microsoft Entra join only; hybrid join requires an Azure network connection.
- Pre-provisioning
Splits Windows Autopilot setup into two stages: first a technician pre-installs device apps and policies, then the user completes their own part later. Both hybrid and cloud-only Microsoft Entra join are supported.
- WCD
Builds provisioning packages, which can, say, Microsoft Entra join many devices at once and enrol them into Intune.
