Terms in this definition
- Resource provider
Service offering Azure resource types within a namespace, for example Microsoft.Network or Microsoft.Compute. Role actions take the form namespace/resourceType/operation.
- Virtual machines
Infrastructure-as-a-service compute giving complete control of the operating system, making it a fit for lift-and-shift moves and for software relying on OS-level pieces like COM.
- Managed disks
Block storage disks for VMs whose underlying storage accounts Azure looks after. The only redundancy choices are LRS and ZRS.
Related terms
- Azure Virtual Machines for deployment
Access policy option on a Key Vault (enabled-for-deployment) that permits Microsoft.Compute to pull certificates, kept as secrets, into VMs at creation time. Azure Disk Encryption doesn't rely on this setting.
- JsonADDomainExtension
Microsoft.Compute extension added to a Windows virtual machine in a template so that the VM joins an Active Directory domain as part of the deployment.
- Microsoft.ContainerInstance
Azure Container Instances resources fall under this provider namespace, so holding Microsoft.Compute permissions gives no rights over them.
- Microsoft.Web
Namespace covering App Service and Azure Functions apps. Permissions granted on Microsoft.Compute do not extend to these resources.
