Restricted to visual calculations, this DAX function reads the value one step further along an axis of the visual matrix; writing OFFSET with 1 gives the same result.

Terms in this definition
- DAX
Short for Data Analysis Expressions, the formula language you write measures, calculated columns and row-level security rules in, within tabular semantic models in Power BI, Excel Power Pivot or Analysis Services.
- Visual matrix
Visual calculations operate over this layout, which shows up in their edit mode as rows and columns, plus row pages if small multiples are used. Anything outside the visual, such as other model tables, can't be referenced.
- OFFSET
A DAX window function that moves a given number of rows back (negative values) or forward (positive) from the current row in a sorted table, optionally split into partitions. It is commonly used to fetch the prior or next period's value.
Related terms
- Agent memory
The past conversation and knowledge an AI agent draws from it, such as summaries, facts and user profiles, saved so the agent keeps context from one turn or session to the next. Azure Cosmos DB and Azure Managed Redis are common places to keep it.
- AI
Short for artificial intelligence. Language models and image recognition are examples: services allowing software to perceive, reason and create content, which Azure provides in the cloud next to machine learning.
- AI splits
A decomposition tree mode, shown by a light-bulb icon, in which Power BI itself picks the field to expand next, looking for high or low values in absolute or relative terms. It is unavailable in Power BI Report Server, Azure Analysis Services and publish-to-web reports.
- Alert story
Shown on a Defender alert page as a process tree: what came before the alert (related events and other alerts), what happened next, and entities that can be expanded for more detail.
- App selective wipe
Removes organisational data, and nothing else, from a user's or device's managed apps once the app is next launched. Conditional launch in app protection can request the same wipe.
- Attention
In a transformer, the mechanism determining the weight each other token in the context carries when predicting the next one.
- AUTO CDC FROM SNAPSHOT
A Lakeflow pipelines API, available only in Python, for sources without a change data feed: it compares one snapshot with the next and maintains an SCD type 1 or type 2 target from the differences.
- Automatic aggregations
For DirectQuery semantic models, this feature studies the query log with machine learning and then creates and maintains in-memory summaries by itself; any aggregations you've defined manually continue to work next to them.
