Terms in this definition
- Degraded
Status Traffic Manager gives an endpoint whose health checks are failing. Such endpoints are omitted from DNS answers, except when all of them are degraded at once.
- vSphere
VMware's platform for virtualisation, made up of vCenter and ESX hosts, supplying compute for VCF clusters.
- Capability
Something that a person, organisation or system is able to do.
- Virtual machines
Infrastructure-as-a-service compute giving complete control of the operating system, making it a fit for lift-and-shift moves and for software relying on OS-level pieces like COM.
- maintenance mode
A state a host is placed in, only on request, so that it can be serviced. Entry completes only once every running VM has been moved off or shut down, and vSAN hosts additionally require a choice about how their data is handled.
- DRS
The Default Rule Set, Microsoft's managed WAF rules that succeed OWASP CRS and defend against XSS, SQL injection and other frequent attacks. Single rules may be overridden or switched off.
