Terms in this definition
- Real-Time Intelligence
Microsoft Fabric's workload for data in motion. Using eventstreams, eventhouses with KQL databases, the Real-Time hub, Real-Time Dashboards and Activator, it takes in events, processes, stores and analyses them, and acts on them.
- Streaming data
Events that keep arriving without end, for example log entries, sensor readings or social media posts; stream processing is how they are handled.
- Tile
Usually pinned from a report, a tile is one visual on a Power BI dashboard; selecting it opens that original report.
- KQL
Kusto Query Language, used read-only to query Azure Data Explorer, Log Analytics and Microsoft Sentinel; log alert rules are written in it too.
- CRUD
Shorthand for create, read, update and delete, the four basic things you do with data. Data-plane roles in Azure Cosmos DB, for instance, authorise those operations on items.

- Live refresh
Found under Manage > Refresh settings on a Real-Time Dashboard, this updates each visual only after its source receives newly ingested data; visuals that cannot tell when ingestion happens use a fallback interval instead. It is enabled for new dashboards.
