Terms in this definition
- PATH
Parent-child hierarchies in DAX rely on this function. For each row it builds one delimited text value listing the IDs of the row's ancestors, top level first and ending with the row's own ID, which PATHITEM, PATHLENGTH and friends can then pick apart.
- LIKE
Compares strings with a pattern that can contain the % and _ wildcards. Because it only understands character patterns, searching big volumes of text this way is much slower than using full-text search.
- Resource group
Container for Azure resources. Its location holds only metadata and cannot be changed afterwards, and one resource group cannot sit inside another.
- subscription
Entitlement bought for a product under VCF 9.0 licensing, carrying a set capacity. Where active ones share the same site, unit and product, their capacity is combined into licences, which are then allocated to vCenters.
Related terms
- Access Connector for Azure Databricks
An Azure resource, provided by Microsoft, whose job is to carry a managed identity (system-assigned, user-assigned or both) that Unity Catalog can use. Storage credentials point at the connector's resource ID to gain access to ADLS.
- Client ID
Identifier presented at runtime by an application or user-assigned managed identity when it asks for tokens (acrUserManagedIdentityID, for instance). Role assignments use a different value, the principal or object ID, and the resource ID is different again.
- Private Link service alias
When you create a Private Link service, Azure gives it a read-only name that is unique worldwide. The provider passes this to consumers, who use it, or the resource ID, to request a private endpoint connection.
- reference()
Function in ARM templates that fetches a resource's runtime state and implies a dependency on it. It cannot be used to supply a resource ID to dependsOn.
- Resource instance rule
A firewall rule on an Azure Storage account that trusts one particular Fabric workspace, identified by its workspace identity. You can't add it in the portal, only through ARM or PowerShell, and the resource ID must use 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 as the subscription.
