A pipeline activity that, over a Power BI connection, refreshes a semantic model you built. Unless you pick particular tables or partitions it refreshes everything, and by default the pipeline waits for the refresh to finish.

Each book explains Semantic model refresh activity in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- Pipeline
Groups activities logically so that, together, they move and transform data, either one after another or side by side; found in both Azure Data Factory and Microsoft Fabric.
- OVER
Gives a T-SQL window function its window: PARTITION BY, ORDER BY and, if wanted, a ROWS or RANGE frame. Rankings and running totals can then be worked out while every row is kept.
- Power BI
Microsoft's analytics and reporting service. It reaches data held on-premises through the on-premises data gateway.
- Connection
Resource that attaches a virtual network gateway to its peer, which may be an ExpressRoute circuit, a second VNet gateway (Vnet2Vnet) or a local network gateway over IPsec. Resetting it recovers a single tunnel and avoids rebooting the whole gateway.
- Semantic model
Sometimes called an OLAP model, this Power BI and Fabric layer defines the measures, hierarchies, tables and relationships that reports and dashboards query; star schema design is the usual pattern.
Related terms
- Partial Batch
One of two commit modes for the Semantic model refresh activity in pipelines: changes are committed batch by batch. Its counterpart, Transactional, commits everything as a single unit.
