- Role
How an actor normally or expectedly behaves, or the part a person takes in a process. A single actor may hold more than one role.
- Auditing
Azure SQL capability that sends database audit logs to Log Analytics, Event Hubs or a storage account; that account is allowed to be in a different region.
- Serverless
Compute tier for single Azure SQL databases that scales automatically, pauses when idle and charges by the second. It is offered in General Purpose and Hyperscale, not Business Critical, and reserved capacity does not apply.
- Access policies
Older permission model for Key Vault, now superseded by the Azure RBAC model.

Built-in role that can manage databases and logical servers, including setting the Microsoft Entra admin. Switching Microsoft Entra-only authentication on or off is beyond it, though Contributor or SQL Security Manager can do so.
