Only an owner can set up scheduled refresh, data source credentials and automatic aggregations for a semantic model. This action, in the model's settings in the service, transfers ownership to whoever selects it.

Terms in this definition
- Full control
Gives every right over protected content, EXTRACT included, plus the ability to alter or strip the encryption. Owners and the Rights Management issuer always hold it.
- Set
Secret permission in Key Vault for writing secrets; some older material refers to it as Create.
- Scheduled refresh
Each semantic model gets its own timetable via Refresh > Schedule refresh in the service. A gateway is needed for on-premises data, and the daily limit is 8 runs with Pro licences or shared capacity, rising to 48 for PPU and Premium or Fabric capacity.
- Search data source
Connection object in Azure AI Search pointing an indexer at its content, which must be a supported source: Blob, ADLS Gen2, Table Storage, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, SQL Managed Instance or SQL Server on Azure VMs. One indexer, one data source.
- Automatic aggregations
For DirectQuery semantic models, this feature studies the query log with machine learning and then creates and maintains in-memory summaries by itself; any aggregations you've defined manually continue to work next to them.
- Semantic model
Sometimes called an OLAP model, this Power BI and Fabric layer defines the measures, hierarchies, tables and relationships that reports and dashboards query; star schema design is the usual pattern.
- Object owner
Every Unity Catalog securable, and every workspace object such as a job or warehouse, has exactly one owner (IS OWNER), which can be a user, a group or a service principal. That owner holds every capability on the object, though child objects do not inherit the ownership.
Related terms
- Active Standby
An NSX gateway HA mode where one Edge node handles traffic while a second waits to take over. Stateful services such as NAT, VPN, load balancing and the stateful firewall depend on it, and VCF Automation 9.0 expects its Tier-0 to be set up this way.
- Collector group
Set of cloud proxies in VCF Operations that collect jointly for their adapters and cloud accounts, so work is balanced across members and one can take over if another fails.
- Document attack
Instructions concealed in outside content such as emails, web pages, documents or text read from images, aiming to take over the model's session. Prompt Shields for documents detects them.
- Hot spare
A disk held back in a storage pool, ready to take over automatically when another disk fails.
- Intel SGX
Intel's hardware-based secure enclave technology. Always Encrypted relies on it for DC-series hardware in Azure SQL Database until it goes out of support at the end of October 2027 (31 October), after which VBS enclaves take over.
- Label group
Sensitivity labels in the modern scheme sit inside these containers, which carry nothing but a name, description, colour and priority. You can't publish one by itself, and they take over the job parent labels used to do.
- Prewarmed instances
In the Functions Premium plan, extra warmed instances (one by default) kept ready to take over as HTTP traffic scales out, reducing cold starts. They are not the same as always ready instances.
- Remote Help
Cloud-based remote support from Intune, governed by role-based access control, in which a licensed helper can see or take over the sharer's screen. It is one of Intune's advanced capabilities.
