Each book explains Usage rights in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- Encryption
Scrambling data so it cannot be read without the correct secret key, which is then used to turn it back again. Hashing, by contrast, cannot be reversed.
- Route table label
Name for a set of route tables in Virtual WAN hubs, used when choosing where routes propagate; Default, for instance, covers the defaultRouteTable of every hub.
- Agent
A specialised form of Microsoft Copilot set up for one particular job, pairing instructions with knowledge and skills. You can create one in Copilot Studio, SharePoint or Agent Builder, and administrators control them from the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- RETURN
Comes after the VAR definitions in DAX and holds the expression whose value the formula gives back. While debugging, pointing it at one variable for a while is a useful trick.
- Test as role
Lets you preview a report as some RLS role, several roles together, or a named individual, inside the Power BI service. Your own identity drives dynamic rules, and DirectQuery models using SSO can't use this feature.
- ELT
Extract, load, transform: raw data lands in the target system first and is transformed there. See ETL for the opposite order.
Related terms
- Azure Rights Management
The service that does the actual encrypting behind sensitivity labels, message encryption and DKE in Purview Information Protection, attaching usage rights to protected content. Newer tenants get it switched on automatically; older ones turn it on with PowerShell.
- Do Not Forward
Applies usage rights to an email so the people it is sent to cannot print, copy or pass it on. Users, DLP and mail flow rules can all apply it, and strictly speaking it is not a template.
