A plug-in that connects Oracle RMAN to Veeam Backup & Replication via the SBT_TAPE interface, giving application-consistent backups and restores of Oracle databases, Oracle RAC clusters included. It is a good fit where database administrators want to keep using native tools.

Terms in this definition
- Oracle RMAN
Oracle Database's built-in utility for backing up and recovering data. Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN plugs into it, letting DBAs carry on with their existing scripts and scheduling while Veeam repositories receive the data.
- Veeam Infrastructure Appliance
A hardened, minimal Linux (JeOS) ISO for running backup proxies, repositories and hardened repositories. It connects to a backup server but does not host one.
- Oracle RAC
Oracle's clustered database technology. Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN can protect RAC databases whether it runs standalone or managed, which makes the plug-in a better fit than image-level backup for them.
- WHERE
Limits a SELECT, UPDATE or DELETE to just the rows meeting a condition. Omit it, and the statement hits every row.
- Schema
The middle part of a Unity Catalog name (
catalog.schema.table), grouping tables, views, volumes, functions and models inside a catalog. A grant on it covers everything in it now and later, and nothing inside can be reached withoutUSE SCHEMA.
Related terms
- Oracle ASM
Oracle's built-in volume manager and file system for holding database files. Where a physical server keeps its databases on ASM disks, Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN is the suggested way to protect them, as it supports ASM.
