Each book explains Win32 app in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- Intune
Microsoft's device management service, once branded Microsoft Endpoint Manager. Its compliance policies are what the compliant-device grant in Conditional Access relies on.
Related terms
- Detection rules
How Intune decides if a Win32 app is installed already, using an MSI check, a file, a registry value or a custom script. A script only counts the app as present if it ends with exit code 0 and outputs something to STDOUT.
- Microsoft Win32 Content Prep Tool
A command-line packager: give it a Windows setup program plus the files it needs and it produces an .intunewin file, which Intune then takes as a Win32 app.
- Requirement rules
Checks a device has to pass before Intune installs a Win32 app, for example on architecture, minimum OS, free disk, RAM, CPU, or a file, registry or script test.
- STDERR
The error output of a script. When a Win32 app detection script sends any text there, Intune considers the app absent.
- STDOUT
The normal output of a script. For a custom detection script on an Intune Win32 app, the app only counts as installed if the script writes something there and exits with code 0.
