Terms in this definition
- Catalog
The first level of Unity Catalog's
catalog.schema.tablenaming and the primary boundary for isolating data. Privileges granted on a catalog flow down to every schema and object it contains. - WHERE
Limits a SELECT, UPDATE or DELETE to just the rows meeting a condition. Omit it, and the statement hits every row.
- BROWSE
Granted on a catalog, this Unity Catalog privilege lets people discover objects, read their metadata and request access, all without
USE CATALOGand with no access to the data itself. - RAMP
The approach used by the Cloud Adoption Framework's Manage methodology to structure cloud operations: teams, duties, processes and tools. It divides what the central platform handles from what each workload handles.
- Unity Catalog
Azure Databricks' governance solution covering both data and AI in one place, with centralised permissions, auditing, data discovery and lineage.
- AGDLP
Nesting pattern: users go into global groups, which go into domain local groups, which receive the permissions. AGUDLP adds universal groups for forests with several domains.
- Image tagging
An Image Analysis feature producing single-word tags, each with a confidence score, for actions, scenery, objects and living things in an image.
Related terms
- AI-generated comments
Drafted descriptions for Unity Catalog objects and their columns, which Catalog Explorer produces by reading metadata. Someone should check each one before accepting it, and it is not a dependable way of spotting PII.
- Data lineage
Unity Catalog tracks, without any set-up and at column granularity, where data comes from and where it goes across tables, notebooks, pipelines, jobs and dashboards. You can explore the graph in Catalog Explorer or query it through system tables.
