Terms in this definition
- OVER
Gives a T-SQL window function its window: PARTITION BY, ORDER BY and, if wanted, a ROWS or RANGE frame. Rankings and running totals can then be worked out while every row is kept.
- HTTPS
Secure HTTP, wrapped in TLS. VCF products serve their web UIs and REST APIs this way on 443.
- HTTP
Hypertext Transfer Protocol, which sends data in clear text; VCF interfaces and APIs instead use HTTPS.
- API
Short for application programming interface: a contract that client code calls programmatically, for example a web API secured with tokens or the Files, Images or Responses APIs.
- VCF Operations for logs
VCF add-on for collecting and analysing logs, deployed through fleet management as one node or a three-node cluster. Anyone moving from Aria Operations for Logs deploys it afresh rather than upgrading.
- Syslog
Table in Log Analytics holding syslog messages from Linux.
Related terms
- Fluentd
This open-source collector gathers logs from Kubernetes, Docker and similar sources. With the fluent-plugin-vmware-loginsight output plug-in it forwards them to VCF Operations for logs via syslog or CFAPI.
- VCF Operations for logs agent
Software on a machine that sends its logs (files, journald or the Windows event log) to VCF Operations for logs via syslog or CFAPI, getting its settings centrally and updating itself.
