A recovery design: backups get copied into immutable storage somewhere remote. If production's backup server is lost, Orchestrator turns to its embedded one and recovers (by restore or failover) from that copy.

Key Vault permission on secrets that allows a single secret to be read; App Service Key Vault references need nothing beyond it.
- General-purpose v1
The older storage account kind (
Storage), which lacks access tiers, Archive and premium file shares and retires on 13 October 2026. Converting to ZRS requires first upgrading to GPv2, a one-way change. - backup server
The Windows or Linux machine running Veeam Backup & Replication, which manages and coordinates jobs, schedules and resources and keeps global settings. When first installed it also takes on the default proxy and repository roles.
- Orchestrator
Software, Kubernetes being an example, that looks after large numbers of containers throughout their life by scheduling, scaling, repairing and updating them.
- RESTORE
Puts a Delta table back to how it was at an older point, picked by
TO VERSION AS OForTO TIMESTAMP AS OF. You needMODIFY, and onceVACUUMhas cleared the old files it can't succeed. - failover
Switching workloads from production VMs over to replicas at the recovery site; replica, CDP replica and storage plans do this. The plan is left in FAILOVER until it is undone, made permanent or followed by failback.
Related terms
- embedded Veeam Backup & Replication server
A complete backup server installed alongside Orchestrator, providing the Veeam PowerShell libraries and supporting certain scenarios. In a clean room setup Orchestrator falls back on it if production's backup server cannot be reached.
- immutable backup repository
Storage that locks restore points against modification or removal for a fixed time. A clean room relies on a remote one: copied backups sit there, and Orchestrator's embedded backup server recovers from them.
