Terms in this definition
- Event
Table in Log Analytics where entries from Windows event logs are kept.
- Modify
Policy effect in Azure that can add, replace or remove tags and other properties. Resources that already exist are brought into line by running a remediation task.
- VACUUM
Removes data files that a table no longer references once they are older than the retention period, 7 days unless changed. Versions older than that can no longer be reached with time travel.
Related terms
- Active Directory Recycle Bin
Once switched on it can't be disabled, and it needs Windows Server 2008 R2 forest functional level or higher. Removed objects retain all attributes, so restoring them doesn't call for an authoritative restore.
- Backup Operators
Members can sign in to and shut down a Windows computer, and back up or restore any file on it regardless of permissions. Distinct from Azure's Backup Operator role.
- _backup.filter
File placed in an app's
site\wwwrootfolder that lists paths for custom App Service backups to skip; during a restore, those excluded paths are not touched. - DSRM
A special start-up mode for domain controllers used to maintain or restore Active Directory while it is offline. You sign in with a local DSRM administrator password chosen when the server was promoted.
- Groups Administrator
A Microsoft Entra admin role for looking after groups in every admin center. Holders can create, change, delete and restore security and Microsoft 365 groups, control who may create groups and how they are named and expire, and license groups.
- Invocation ID
Changes after a restore or a VM-GenerationID change to protect against USN rollback; it identifies the database instance on a DC.
- MTTR
Mean time to recovery: how long, on average, it takes to get a service working again after an outage. It is among the DORA delivery measures, where it is called time to restore service.
- Non-authoritative synchronisation
After cloning or a restore, a domain controller can have SYSVOL (or another DFSR folder) reset so it pulls a fresh copy from a partner. The authoritative alternative instead nominates one member as the source everyone else takes.
