Lets you pull live events into Microsoft Fabric from Apache Kafka, Azure IoT Hub, Azure Event Hubs and similar sources, reshape them and pass them on elsewhere, all with no coding; it belongs to Real-Time Intelligence.

Each book explains Eventstream in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- Microsoft Fabric
Analytics platform from Microsoft delivered as SaaS on top of OneLake, offering capabilities including Direct Lake and shortcuts.
- LAMP
Short for Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP (Perl and Python also fill the P): a widely used open-source stack for web applications whose database is frequently Azure Database for MySQL.
- IoT Hub
A service that ingests telemetry from devices to the cloud and also manages those devices, offering an alternative to Event Hubs.
- Azure Event Hubs
Azure service for ingesting telemetry at high volume over HTTPS or AMQP; diagnostic settings can send data to it.
- ALL
A DAX function that ignores any filters and gives back every row of a table or every value of the named columns. Used within CALCULATE, it works as a modifier that clears filters, although REMOVEFILTERS states that intent more clearly where it is available.
- Real-Time Intelligence
Microsoft Fabric's workload for data in motion. Using eventstreams, eventhouses with KQL databases, the Real-Time hub, Real-Time Dashboards and Activator, it takes in events, processes, stores and analyses them, and acts on them.
Related terms
- Amazon MSK
Amazon's managed Apache Kafka offering on AWS. In Fabric Real-Time Intelligence it can be added as an eventstream source to pull in its topics.
- Azure Blob Storage events
Notifications in Real-Time hub, for instance
Microsoft.Storage.BlobCreatedorMicrosoft.Storage.BlobDeleted, that fire when a blob or directory changes in a general-purpose v2 or Blob Storage account. They describe changes rather than carrying business records, and can drive an eventstream or an Activator alert. - Azure events
One of the Real-Time hub's categories, listing system-level events emitted by Azure services (Blob Storage events, say). Each can be streamed into an eventstream, or Activator can raise alerts on it.
- Custom endpoint
Lets your own app push events into, or read events out of, an eventstream. It provides connection details for Kafka, AMQP or Event Hubs protocols, secured with either Entra ID or a SAS key, and can act as a source or a destination.
- Derived stream
Created when an eventstream's default stream is transformed, for instance with Filter or Manage fields. It can feed further destinations and shows up in Real-Time hub where colleagues can reuse it.
- Event processor editor
The drag-and-drop designer you see when an eventstream is in Edit mode, used to shape data between a stream and where it lands without writing code. Typical operators include filtering, joining, grouping, aggregating, unioning, expanding and managing fields.
- Event throughput setting
Controls how much data per second an eventstream's sources and destinations can handle, with three levels: Low (default, under 10 MB/s), Medium (10-100 MB/s) and High (beyond 100 MB/s). Switching level requires turning pausable nodes off and on again.
- Fabric events
Events raised by Fabric itself and listed in Real-Time hub, for example about workspace items, OneLake, jobs or capacity overview. An eventstream can carry them onward, or Activator can raise alerts from them.
