Also called Event Hubs.

Each book explains Azure Event Hubs in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- Volume
Holds non-tabular files sitting in cloud storage under Unity Catalog governance, addressed as
/Volumes/<catalog>/<schema>/<volume>. A volume can be external or managed, andWRITE VOLUMEorREAD VOLUMEdecide who may use it. - OVER
Gives a T-SQL window function its window: PARTITION BY, ORDER BY and, if wanted, a ROWS or RANGE frame. Rankings and running totals can then be worked out while every row is kept.
- HTTPS
Secure HTTP, wrapped in TLS. VCF products serve their web UIs and REST APIs this way on 443.
- AMQP
Short for Advanced Message Queuing Protocol; Service Bus and Event Hubs accept it as well as HTTPS.
Related terms
- Auditing
Azure SQL capability that sends database audit logs to Log Analytics, Event Hubs or a storage account; that account is allowed to be in a different region.
- Azure SQL auditing
Azure SQL feature that sends audit logs to Event Hubs, a Log Analytics workspace (the only KQL-queryable option) or a storage account, which in the portal must be in the server's region and can't be premium FileStorage or legacy BlobStorage.
- CES
Sends every row change in a stream group's tables to Fabric Eventstream or Azure Event Hubs, each as a CloudEvent. It's in preview for SQL database in Fabric, Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database and SQL Server 2025; delivery over AMQP was deprecated on 15 August 2026, with Kafka the recommended route.
- Consumer group
Lets an application read an Azure Event Hubs stream independently, with its own position and pace, as a view of the entire hub. With several of these, many applications can process the same events.
- Continuous export
Streams Defender for Cloud recommendations and alerts out to Event Hubs or to a Log Analytics workspace, either as they happen or in weekly snapshots; Azure Policy can apply the setting at scale.
- Custom endpoint
Lets your own app push events into, or read events out of, an eventstream. It provides connection details for Kafka, AMQP or Event Hubs protocols, secured with either Entra ID or a SAS key, and can act as a source or a destination.
- Diagnostic setting
Configuration sending a resource's metrics and logs to a storage account, Event Hubs, Log Analytics or a partner solution; a resource can have five at most.
- Event Hubs Capture
Automatically saves Event Hubs data as Avro files in ADLS Gen2 or Blob Storage, cutting a file whenever a size or time window is reached.
