A container beneath a Foundry resource that keeps one team's agents, data, files, evaluations and project connections separate. Model deployments and resource-level connections are shared from the parent, and governance is not configured at this level.
Also called project.

Terms in this definition
- Container
Something that groups data. Blob Storage containers sit inside a storage account and hold blobs much as folders hold files; Cosmos DB containers hold items and set the scope for partitioning and throughput.
- Microsoft Foundry resource
Azure resource at the top of the Foundry hierarchy (
Microsoft.CognitiveServices/accounts, kindAIServices). It governs model deployments, networking, security, policy and shared connections, while child projects keep teams isolated. - Governance
Keeping cloud deployments in line with an organisation's rules on technology, security and compliance, helped by Azure Policy, tags and resource locks.
Related terms
- Agent Application
Resource that Azure creates on publishing an agent version; it has a stable endpoint plus its own Microsoft Entra agent identity and blueprint. Role assignments held by the project identity do not carry over and need to be granted again.
- AIProjectClient
Starting object of the Microsoft Foundry SDK, constructed from the project endpoint plus a Microsoft Entra credential like DefaultAzureCredential. Because only Entra ID authentication is supported, no project key or SAS exists.
- Architecture Definition Increments Table
Checks a migration plan: for every planned project it shows which slice of the target architecture that project contributes, so that the roadmap built in Phase F can be confirmed against its intermediate states.
- azure-ai-projects
Python SDK for Microsoft Foundry; its AIProjectClient opens a connection to a project, and
telemetry.get_application_insights_connection_string()fetches the connection string of the Application Insights resource linked to that project. - Azure Artifacts feed
Holds packages (Cargo, Universal, Python, Maven, npm, NuGet) in Artifacts; it belongs to a project or the organisation and supports views, feed roles and upstreams.
- Azure Boards app for GitHub
Lets work items in Boards link to commits, branches, pull requests and issues once installed from GitHub. Any one repository connects to a single Azure DevOps organisation and project only.
- Azure Boards for Teams
Lets a Teams channel create Boards work items and receive notifications about them, connected to one project.
- Azure Migrate
Azure service that discovers, assesses and migrates on-premises servers using an appliance deployed on premises; its project is created in the destination subscription.
