Terms in this definition
- SMB
Protocol for Windows file shares, used by Azure Files and supporting authentication based on identity.
- Shares
A relative weighting for dividing a contended resource such as memory, CPU, network bandwidth or disk I/O: double the shares earns double the entitlement. Reservations, by contrast, are guarantees and limits are ceilings.
- backup server
The Windows or Linux machine running Veeam Backup & Replication, which manages and coordinates jobs, schedules and resources and keeps global settings. When first installed it also takes on the default proxy and repository roles.
- Repository
A group of images or artefacts in a container registry that share one name and differ by tag. Names can include slash-separated namespaces, but every repository is handled separately.
Related terms
- Dell Data Domain
A Dell dedupe appliance that can serve as a Veeam repository, accessed through a gateway server over DD Boost.
- HPE StoreOnce
An HPE deduplication appliance reached via StoreOnce Catalyst and used as a repository. Since no Data Mover can run on it, a gateway server is required.
