Connects a Fabric workspace, in its entirety, to one folder on a single branch of a cloud-hosted GitHub or Azure DevOps repo. Definitions of items can then be committed, versioned, branched and kept in sync with source control.

Terms in this definition
- Workspace
Teams in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric collaborate in this folder-style container, which groups items such as reports, semantic models and lakehouses, controls who can access them and is assigned a capacity.
- Azure DevOps
Microsoft's suite of DevOps services, among them Azure Boards and Azure Pipelines.
- CONTROL
Granting this on a securable gives all other permissions on it too, making it the most powerful SQL permission. At database scope that includes UNMASK and ALTER ANY MASK. Warehouse access through the Admin, Member or Contributor workspace roles carries it.
Related terms
- ALM
Short for application lifecycle management, the practice of promoting content from development to test to production. Fabric delivers it by pairing Git integration (the CI part) with deployment pipelines (the CD part).
- Branch out
Part of Fabric's Git integration: an Admin, Member or Contributor makes a new branch off the one their workspace is synced with, then points a new or existing workspace at it, optionally taking only certain items along.
- Deployment plan
A preview Fabric item, living in a workspace, that lets you fix the order items are deployed in and run actions before or after deployment. It is linked to a deployment made through Git integration, a deployment pipeline or the REST API, rather than being run by itself.
- Fabric REST APIs
Microsoft's publicly documented web APIs for scripting Fabric work. Areas covered range from Git integration, with calls to commit to or update from a repository, through bulk import of item definitions, to promoting content between deployment pipeline stages.
- PBIX
The binary file Power BI Desktop uses by default. Its contents are opaque to anything but Desktop, which is why teams wanting source control or Git integration choose PBIP instead.
