Terms in this definition
- Chat message roles
Labels on chat messages: instructions go under system, the person's input under user, the model's previous answers under assistant, and results returned by a called tool under tool (or function).
- AD DS
Short for Active Directory Domain Services, the domain controller-based Windows directory run on-premises. Microsoft Entra Domain Services offers a managed counterpart.
- Microsoft Entra ID
Cloud identity service from Microsoft, previously named Azure AD, which provides the tenant behind Microsoft 365 and Azure.
- Document Intelligence add-on capabilities
Extra Document Intelligence options switched on with the features query parameter: barcodes, formulas, keyValuePairs, languages, ocrHighResolution, queryFields and styleFont.
- Authentication
Checking an identity claim made by a person, device or app, for instance by asking for a password plus an extra factor. Authorisation only happens once this step has succeeded.
- Azure Files
Azure's managed file shares over SMB or NFS. There is no Archive tier, and a single encryption key applies across the whole storage account.

- Writeback
In a hybrid identity set-up, this capability pushes changes made in Microsoft Entra ID down to the on-premises directory. Password writeback is one example: when users reset or change their password with SSPR, AD DS receives it straight away.
