Settings applied to each field in an Azure AI Search index: searchable for full text, retrievable to return it, filterable for exact-match $filter, sortable, facetable for counts, and key for the unique document ID.
Also called searchable, filterable, facetable, sortable, retrievable, key.

Terms in this definition
- Azure AI Search
Managed Azure service that builds indexes over your content and answers keyword, vector, hybrid and semantically ranked queries, optionally with AI enrichment. Retrieval-augmented generation, Foundry agents and knowledge mining all use it to fetch relevant content.
- Index
Speeds up queries that filter on certain columns by keeping those columns sorted, with pointers back to each row; the price is more storage and slower writes.
- RETURN
Comes after the VAR definitions in DAX and holds the expression whose value the formula gives back. While debugging, pointing it at one variable for a while is a useful trick.
- FILTER
Returns just those rows of a table that meet a condition. In CALCULATE it handles conditions too complex for a Boolean filter argument, though a Boolean filter is faster whenever one will work.
Related terms
- 3DES
Older symmetric block cipher (Triple DES) regarded today as weak. Storage customer-managed keys cannot use it as a key type.
- AAGUID
Passkey profiles and authentication strengths can permit or refuse particular authenticators by this value. It is a 128-bit ID handed over by the passkey (FIDO2) maker when a key is registered, telling Microsoft Entra which make and model it is.
- Access keys
Pair of 512-bit keys belonging to a storage account; every account SAS and service SAS is signed with one of them. Once both are regenerated, direct key access and all those SAS tokens stop working.
- Account SAS
Shared access signature created with an account key. One token may cover multiple services (ss), resource types (srt) and permissions (sp), service-level operations included, but turning off Shared Key authorisation blocks it.
- AIProjectClient
Starting object of the Microsoft Foundry SDK, constructed from the project endpoint plus a Microsoft Entra credential like DefaultAzureCredential. Because only Entra ID authentication is supported, no project key or SAS exists.
- Anti join
A join (
[LEFT] ANTI JOINin SQL,antiorleft_antiin PySpark) returning just the left-hand rows that find no partner on the right, with only the left table's columns. A typical use is spotting fact rows whose dimension key is missing. - API key (Foundry resource key)
Key generated alongside an Azure OpenAI or Foundry Tools resource and supplied through the api-key header. It is used only when keyless authentication with Microsoft Entra ID cannot be.
- API Management llm-token-limit policy
Inbound AI gateway policy that caps token usage per counter key. Exceeding tokens-per-minute produces 429, an exhausted token quota produces 403, and estimate-prompt-tokens lets it reject before calling the backend.
