Formerly Office 365, Microsoft's software-as-a-service productivity suite. A Microsoft Entra tenant provides its identity, and its data is not governed by Azure RBAC.
Also called Office 365, Office 365.

Terms in this definition
- Microsoft Entra tenant
Instance of the Entra ID directory dedicated to an organisation, with an initial .onmicrosoft.com domain picked when it is created. Every Azure subscription trusts one tenant only.
- IDENTITY
A column property, written IDENTITY(seed, increment), that gives each new row the next number in a rising sequence. SCOPE_IDENTITY reports the latest value created in the current scope, and a rolled-back transaction still uses up the numbers it took.
- Azure RBAC
Azure's model for granting access: built-in or custom roles are assigned at a scope to users, groups or managed identities. Calling Foundry keylessly with Entra ID requires a data-plane role, for example Foundry User (formerly Azure AI User) or Cognitive Services OpenAI User.
Related terms
- A5
The highest Microsoft 365 plan for education, equivalent to E5 for schools and universities. It includes premium Purview and Defender capabilities, for example Endpoint DLP, Audit (Premium), Insider Risk Management and the premium eDiscovery features.
- AIR
Automated investigation and response in Microsoft Defender: alerts are examined without an analyst, each item of evidence gets a verdict, and fixes are carried out or suggested in the Action center. For Office 365 protection it requires Defender for Office 365 Plan 2.
- Alert policy
Raises an alert once user or administrator activity in Microsoft 365 crosses a set threshold and meets defined conditions. These rules live in the Defender portal, under Email & collaboration then Policies & rules.
- All resources (Conditional Access)
Broadest Conditional Access target, previously called All cloud apps, which takes in every resource such as Microsoft 365 and the Azure portal. Microsoft Azure Management covers less.
- Anti-phishing policy
Protects incoming mail in Microsoft 365 with spoof intelligence; with Defender for Office 365 it also offers impersonation protection plus adjustable phishing thresholds.
- BCL
Bulk complaint level: Microsoft 365 rates grey mail from 0 to 9, higher meaning more people have complained. When a message's rating reaches the threshold set in an anti-spam policy, that policy acts.
- BEC
Business email compromise is a scam where criminals pretend to be someone trusted, perhaps a finance officer, customer or partner, so that money is moved, payments signed off or data handed over. Plan 1 of Defender for Office 365 defends against it.
- CloudAppEvents
Holds enriched activity from Office 365 and connected SaaS apps for advanced hunting. Data arrives only through Defender for Cloud Apps and its Microsoft 365 connector; Purview Audit by itself doesn't fill it.
