A column property, written IDENTITY(seed, increment), that gives each new row the next number in a rising sequence. SCOPE_IDENTITY reports the latest value created in the current scope, and a rolled-back transaction still uses up the numbers it took.

Terms in this definition
- property
In VCF Operations, an attribute describing how an object is configured, such as its vCPU count. Unlike a metric, it captures state rather than performance over time, and it can feed symptom definitions, views, dashboards and reports.
- NEXT
Restricted to visual calculations, this DAX function reads the value one step further along an axis of the visual matrix; writing OFFSET with 1 gives the same result.
- SEQUENCE
A schema-bound object that generates values on request via NEXT VALUE FOR without belonging to a table. One can feed several tables, restart, cycle or set aside a block of values; any value drawn inside a transaction that rolls back is gone.
- Scope
Where an access or policy assignment takes effect. It can be set on a single resource, a resource group, a subscription or a management group, and settings flow down from higher levels.
Related terms
- AcrPull
Data-plane role built into Azure Container Registry that allows reading tags and pulling images. Assign it to whichever identity performs the pull.
- AcrQuarantineWriter
Azure Container Registry built-in role belonging to the quarantine feature: it lets an identity push quarantined images and update their quarantine status. It has nothing to do with signing.
- AD DS tier model
Older administration model keeping credentials within their tier: Tier 0 for identity systems like DCs, Tier 1 for servers, Tier 2 for workstations. Superseded by the enterprise access model.
- ADFS
Active Directory Federation Services, Microsoft's identity federation product. VCF Identity Broker accepts it as an outside IdP (over OIDC or SAML) so people can sign in to VCF.
- Admin user (ACR)
Built-in admin account on a container registry, turned off by default, with one username and two passwords that can be regenerated. It grants full push and pull rights under a single shared identity.
- Agent Application
Resource that Azure creates on publishing an agent version; it has a stable endpoint plus its own Microsoft Entra agent identity and blueprint. Role assignments held by the project identity do not carry over and need to be granted again.
- App Configuration Data Reader
Lets a signed-in identity look up key-values stored in App Configuration, purely as a data-plane permission: holding it confers nothing over the configuration store as an Azure resource. When a key points to Key Vault, that identity also needs Key Vault Secrets User on the vault before the reference resolves.
- App registration
Object in Microsoft Entra ID describing an app's identity, the permissions it needs and which account types it supports; multi-tenant apps and OpenID Connect sign-in depend on it.
