Terms in this definition
- DAX
Short for Data Analysis Expressions, the formula language you write measures, calculated columns and row-level security rules in, within tabular semantic models in Power BI, Excel Power Pivot or Analysis Services.
- Whole number
Holds 64-bit integers without a fractional part (Int64.Type in Power Query), making it a natural choice for integer keys and counts. Visuals display numbers reliably only as far as 2^53-1.
- WHERE
Limits a SELECT, UPDATE or DELETE to just the rows meeting a condition. Omit it, and the statement hits every row.
Related terms
- Balanced hierarchy
A hierarchy in which each path has an identical, fixed depth, as with year, quarter, month, date. Ragged hierarchies and parent-child (unbalanced) ones, by contrast, have branches of differing length.
- CALENDARAUTO
Scans the model for its first and last dates and returns a continuous Date column covering complete calendar years, or fiscal years when you pass a year-end month. As later dates arrive through refresh, this DAX function's range grows to include them.
- CLOSINGBALANCEMONTH
Use this DAX function to get a value as at month end, for example stock on hand: it calculates the expression on the final day of the month being looked at.
- DATESMTD
Month-to-date measures rely on this DAX time intelligence function, which yields each date between the first of the month and whatever latest date the current context holds.
- Defender for Storage malware scanning
As blobs are uploaded, Microsoft Defender Antivirus checks them. Charges are per GB, limited each month per account (10,000 GB by default), and results can land in blob index tags, Event Grid, Log Analytics or security alerts.
- Feature usage and adoption report
An admin monitoring report, still in preview, giving a month's view of Fabric activity plus an item inventory. Microsoft has said it will stay in preview and recommends the Govern report in the OneLake catalog as its replacement.
- FORMAT
A DAX function that turns a value into text according to a format string, for instance "MMMM" to show a month's name. Since the output is text, numeric operations can't use it, and dynamic format strings were introduced to get around that.
- Gallery image
A Windows 365 Cloud PC image that Microsoft builds and refreshes each month, with or without Microsoft 365 Apps. The alternative is a custom image that an organisation produces and keeps up to date itself.
