A check that the kubelet, or Container Apps, performs on a container. Liveness failures trigger a restart, readiness controls whether it gets traffic, and startup holds off the other checks until the app is up.

Terms in this definition
- Container
Something that groups data. Blob Storage containers sit inside a storage account and hold blobs much as folders hold files; Cosmos DB containers hold items and set the scope for partitioning and throughput.
- Azure Functions trigger
Every function is started by exactly one thing. That thing might be a web call over HTTP, a schedule, the arrival of a blob, a message landing in a queue or a change in a database.
- App protection policy
A set of Intune rules on managed apps that safeguards organisational data, for example by demanding a PIN or preventing copy-paste and save-as into personal apps. It works whether or not the device is enrolled.
Related terms
- AzureLoadBalancer (service tag)
Service tag standing for 168.63.129.16, which Azure's infrastructure load balancer uses as the source of its health probes; rules using it match probe traffic, never client requests.
- CheckingEndpoint
Interim Traffic Manager status an endpoint holds before its first probe result arrives; it continues to appear in DNS answers during that time.
- Custom health probe
Application Gateway probe tied to backend settings in which you choose host, path, interval, match criteria and (on v2) port, for example to test port 8080.
- Default health probe
Automatic Application Gateway probe built from the protocol and port in the backend settings, aimed at 127.0.0.1 when no host is given. Problems on any other port go unnoticed.
- Health probe
A TCP, HTTP or HTTPS check a load balancer uses to decide whether backends are healthy. For an HTTP probe, its path has to return HTTP 200.
- Liveness probe
A Kubernetes health check whose failure causes the container to be restarted. It should stay light, with checks on dependencies left to the readiness probe.
