Terms in this definition
- failover
Switching workloads from production VMs over to replicas at the recovery site; replica, CDP replica and storage plans do this. The plan is left in FAILOVER until it is undone, made permanent or followed by failback.
- DR
Disaster recovery means getting a service running again from another region or site, with success judged by RPO and RTO; uptime SLAs and data retention are different concerns.
- Virtual machines
Infrastructure-as-a-service compute giving complete control of the operating system, making it a fit for lift-and-shift moves and for software relying on OS-level pieces like COM.
- Get
Key Vault permission on secrets that allows a single secret to be read; App Service Key Vault references need nothing beyond it.
Related terms
- Register Replica VM (Storage)
Used in storage plans to bring each recovered VM online: it is added to a host at the target site, mapping and re-IP rules are applied, and then it is started.
