Every container app version is captured as an unchangeable snapshot. Changing anything in revision scope produces a fresh one, and in multiple revision mode traffic can be divided across several active at once.

Terms in this definition
- Container
Something that groups data. Blob Storage containers sit inside a storage account and hold blobs much as folders hold files; Cosmos DB containers hold items and set the scope for partitioning and throughput.
- App protection policy
A set of Intune rules on managed apps that safeguards organisational data, for example by demanding a PIN or preventing copy-paste and save-as into personal apps. It works whether or not the device is enrolled.
- snapshot
Captures a VM's disk state, power state, settings and, if requested, memory at a moment in time, using one delta disk per virtual disk. Snapshots should not be relied on as backups.
- Scope
Where an access or policy assignment takes effect. It can be set on a single resource, a resource group, a subscription or a management group, and settings flow down from higher levels.
Related terms
- HTTP scale rule
A Container Apps rule that scales a revision according to how many HTTP requests it is handling at once, evaluated every 15 seconds. Container Apps jobs cannot use it.
- NIST SP 800-53
Catalogue of security controls (Revision 5) from the US National Institute of Standards and Technology, offered in Defender for Cloud as a built-in regulatory standard.
- Replica
Container Apps runs each revision as one or more copies, and every copy is a replica (Kubernetes uses the term for copies of a pod template too). How many run is decided by scale rules, between minReplicas and maxReplicas.
- Traffic splitting
A Container Apps capability, configured in configuration.ingress.traffic, that gives revisions percentage weights adding up to 100%, picking each revision by name or by label.
