Each book explains Supervisor Services in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- Certified
The higher of the two endorsement levels, above Promoted. It tells users an item has been checked by an authorised reviewer and meets organisational quality standards; a Fabric admin turns the feature on and decides who may certify.
- vSphere
VMware's platform for virtualisation, made up of vCenter and ESX hosts, supplying compute for VCF clusters.
- IaaS
Infrastructure as a service: the customer runs and maintains virtual machines including their operating systems, for instance SQL Server hosted on an Azure VM.
- Harbor
An open-source container registry. Deployed as a Supervisor Service, it keeps images for VKS clusters (and for vSphere Pods in VCF), and it relies on an ingress controller or load balancer.
- VKS
Supervisor service, previously the Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Service, that deploys and looks after VMware-supported upstream Kubernetes clusters inside vSphere Namespaces.
Related terms
- vSphere Namespace
An area on a Supervisor, with caps on CPU, memory, storage and Kubernetes objects, in which VMs, vSphere Pods, VKS clusters and Supervisor Services run. VCF Automation creates them within a project, drawing on the organisation's region quota.
