Terms in this definition

• Virtual machines

  Infrastructure-as-a-service compute giving complete control of the operating system, making it a fit for lift-and-shift moves and for software relying on OS-level pieces like COM.

• TURN

  If a direct link can't be made, RDP Shortpath for Windows 365 relays UDP traffic via Microsoft servers on port 3478 instead.

• CRUD

  Shorthand for create, read, update and delete, the four basic things you do with data. Data-plane roles in Azure Cosmos DB, for instance, authorise those operations on items.

• CONVERT

  Works much like CAST, changing a value's data type in T-SQL, with the addition of an optional style number; 126, for instance, gives ISO 8601 dates.

• CLONE

  Copies a table as of a given version through CREATE TABLE ... CLONE. Deep is the default and duplicates data plus metadata; shallow copies the metadata alone and keeps referencing the original files.

• actionOnUnmanage

  Controls what a deployment stack does with resources that drop out of its template: detach them or delete them. The delete option takes over from complete deployment mode, which is on the way to deprecation.

• ADML

  The language file paired with an ADMX template, carrying the text that users see. For each ADMX imported into Intune, a single en-us ADML file is accepted.

• Agent identity blueprint

  Template in Microsoft Entra Agent ID that holds credentials for one type of agent and obtains tokens for the agent identities created from it. Policies like Conditional Access set on it reach all those identities; Azure RBAC roles cannot be assigned to it.

• AppSource

  Microsoft's online store for add-ons, including Power BI custom visuals and template apps. Once imported, a visual is added to the Visualizations pane, provided admin settings permit it.

• AWS connector (Defender for Cloud)

  Connector linking Defender for Cloud to Amazon Web Services, finished by running a generated CloudFormation template on the AWS side. If Defender for Servers is enabled, it provisions Azure Arc onto EC2 instances automatically.

• az deployment group create

  Azure CLI command for deploying a template into a resource group that already exists.

• az deployment sub create

  Azure CLI command for deploying a template at the subscription level, which is how resource groups themselves can be created.
